Do you always use pinch or remote collars?

No.  We choose the most appropriate tool to help the dog and owner accomplish their goal.  In some cases this might be teaching an owner how to use a clicker and food.  In others it could be how to use toys and praise more effectively.  It all depends on the objective, on the dog, on the situation and on the owner.

A bit like when you go to the dentist, you trust that he’s going to choose the right instrument to do the job, it’s much the same with your dog trainer.

Homework? What homework?

I have tried other trainers before and didn’t get the results I wanted – what makes you different and more effective?
We are often the last stop after clients have been through several trainers.
Unlike other training approaches that only focus on developing alternate behaviours, rewarding with food, or merely managing your way around the problem, we cultivate new habits and teach the dog to make better choices.
We ensure that each dog is clear about what we expect of him/her in everyday life.  We are consistently successful with dogs that others are unable to help.
We are confident we can give you the breakthrough you’re looking for and enable you to enjoy an inclusive and active life with your dog.
I can’t enjoy walking my dog in public. The pulling, lunging, barking, growling makes my life a misery. Can you fix this?
We consistently get fantastic results with all levels of issues, from mild pulling and disobedience, to dog reactivity.

How do you train with a Remote Training Collar (E-Collar)?
I know some people will be afraid of Remote Collars due to various horror stories that circulate on the Internet and other places.  I can assure you that there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of which is why we make no attempt to hide the tools we use to train with.  We are super excited to help you get fantastic real world training results and a happy dog.  This is how we do it.

We use low-level, communication-style, modern Remote Collar training, which looks nothing like the type of “training” you may have seen in the past.

Why do you use Remote Training Collars (E-Collars) ?
Modern Remote Collar training is the most effective, most reliable, most humane, and transformational training available today.
What does a day in the life at Westway Canine Board and Train look like?
We only work with a small number of dogs to ensure that each dog has the right amount of one-to-one attention. First thing in the morning, all dogs go out on a 45-min to 1-hour long structured walk, followed by breakfast. After a rest period each dog will spend time alternating between active commands, duration work, and specific behaviour modification, including confidence building. They will also have plenty of opportunities to rest and take it easy between active sessions.
Why do you use prong (or pinch) collars?
We teach dogs through a communication process which involves the least possible physical stress to the dog.
As professionals we are able to use the prong collar to make a connection and communicate with your dog with minimal pressure.
We know they look ugly and a bit scary however when in the hands of a professional they are less physically invasive, most humane and one of the safest training tools available.
They cannot and will not harm your dog.  They cannot puncture the skin.  They cannot over tighten or choke your dog.
Have a look at the video below to learn more about how we use this tool and the results that it can have.

Will I get to see my dog during the Residential Training?

It’s unlikely.  We find that in most cases it’s best if we can work with your dog through the training and transformation process without the emotional responses that your dog will associate with you.  Often this can be counter productive to what we’re trying to achieve.

What happens if I don’t get the results I want from the training? Is there a guarantee?
There are many factors in play to create and maintain a well mannered well behaved balanced dog, including a commitment from each owner to train consistently and follow through on the advice given.
It simply isn’t ethical for us to offer a 100% guarantee but we can commit to you that when you hire us we become your partners in the transformation process.
We work together with you to seek the very best results possible for your dog and this process of teamwork and collaboration will continue long after your dog has gone home.
